Made in England, this navigational tool, designed by Capt. William Andrew Field (about 1796–1871) of Britain, combines a protractor and compass scales for easier ship navigation. Composed of boxwood and brass, its outer edges is divided into degrees like a protractor, with its opposite edge divided into points of the compass. This lovely, antique piece has a chip from one corner (see photos.)
