This antique wood and iron hand plane has an 11" body made by C. Willms in Mainz, an iron made by Peugeot Jackson Acier Fondu Garanti (Elephant logo) and a wood wedge. So the body was made in Germany and the iron was made in France. In good, used condition with wear from much use.
History of the Peugeot Jackson Company: In 1842, Frédéric Peugeot's children joined forces with the Jackson brothers. In 1846, they founded the company Peugeot Aînés & Jackson Frères. They purchased two mills in Pont-de-Roide and converted them into a steelworks to manufacture saws, as well as coffee and pepper mills. The Jackson brothers contributed their expertise in cast steel production. The company name became Peugeot Jackson & Cie 1863. The Jackson name disappeared in 1878.
